In November, we hosted two important community meetings to share updates on affordable housing initiatives in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Both events highlighted the strong local support for creating homes that meet the needs of our communities.
We were delighted to meet residents and discuss plans for the Carn Thomas Primary School site. Working in partnership with the Duchy of Cornwall, we aim to transform this historic granite building into seven new homes for social rent.
Affordable housing is a critical need on the islands, where high property prices make it difficult for local families to stay. This project will provide secure, high-quality homes that help sustain the community and support local businesses.
The meeting was attended by around 50 residents, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Please consider signing our online letter of support to help demonstrate the community’s commitment to creating homes for local people.
We were pleased to support the Deviock Community Trust at their public meeting in Downderry. The Trust is working to purchase a site in the village for the development of 20+ homes for social rent, addressing the growing challenge of second homes and holiday lets in coastal communities.
The meeting drew 92 attendees, who offered feedback, support, and signed up as members of the Trust. This strong community support is vital as the project moves forward. Community involvement is crucial to the success of this project, so please visit Deviock Community Trust's website for more information on how you can sign up and support local housing for the community.
