We are working with the Deviock Community Trust to purchase a site in Downderry village for the development of 20+ new homes, all designated for social rent to local people. This project represents a major step forward in addressing the housing needs of the community.
Affordable housing is critical for sustaining vibrant communities in Cornwall. Like many coastal areas, Downderry faces pressure from second homes and holiday lets, making it harder for local families to find secure, affordable accommodation.
This development will provide high-quality homes for those who need them most, helping local businesses retain staff and ensuring the village remains a thriving place to live and work.
We are at the very beginning of this exciting journey. Our team is currently supporting the Deviock Community Trust in launching a community engagement programme. The project received fantastic support at the public meeting in November 2025. Thank you to all 92 people who showed up, offered feedback, and signed up as members of Deviock Community Trust.
If all goes to plan:
It’s early days, and as we learned from Looe, these projects can take longer that planned.
The Deviock Community Trust is committed to ensuring local voices shape this development. Community engagement will be central throughout the process, from design decisions to contractor selection.
More information about the project and how to support DCT can be found on the Deviock Community Trust website
