We are working in partnership with the Duchy of Cornwall to transform the former Carn Thomas Primary School into seven new homes for rent at social rent levels. The historic granite school building will be sensitively restored and converted, complemented by gardens, parking spaces, and a welcoming communal courtyard.
Affordable housing is a critical need on the Isles of Scilly, where high property prices and limited availability make it difficult for local families to stay in the community. This project will provide secure, high-quality homes for social rent, helping to sustain the islands’ population and support local businesses that rely on a stable workforce.
The scheme is in its early stages, with a detailed cost review underway. We invited residents to a public meeting in November 2025. Thank you to all 50 people in attendance for sharing your views and support, this helps shape what promises to be a landmark development for the islands.
Feedback so far has been hugely positive. Local families, the Council, and community groups are actively engaged, ensuring the design reflects local needs and preserves the building’s historic character.
